Things I Do

-Help Terry replace a turkey house curtain.

-Help Terry in the turkey house.
The day the baby turkeys arrived, they were hatched that same morning bright and early.  We call these "same day hatch."

-Help move turkeys from one end of the turkey house to the other.
Five weeks later the cute birds have turned into this, just opposite of the ugly duckling.

-Quilt with Autumn.

-Skype with Autumn.
When Autumn is at her home in Pennsylvania we can still quilt together by way of Skype.

-Paint barn quilt blocks.
This is my last set of barn blocks I am painting.
I painted 8 more and I only have 3 left.

8 finished 2' x 2' barn quilt blocks.
These 3 blocks are left to sell and they are $75.00 each.  Let me know if you want one.  Great Christmas gifts!

-Piece Quilts
I am ready to quilt this scrappy quilt; but I am not sure if I will quilt chevrons, hexagons, stars, diamonds or circles.

-Teach quilt classes
Last week I went to Raleigh, NC and Wilmington, NC to teach, "Lets Party", "Cactus Star" and "Star Tricks."  Look at all the smiles on these ladies faces!  You can see why quilting is so much fun.

Paper pieced "Cactus Star" class.

A $50.00 desk turned into a new sewing cabinet.  Compliments from my handy dandy husband.

I picked up the Old Order Mennonite children on their field trip day.  They went to Campbell Print Center and  hiked up Mole Hill.

I got new counter tops and here is a before and..........

....and after picture. I spray painted my green
canisters with a gray speckled paint.

I took this picture for a pictorial quilt I want to make in the future.

Quilts at The Virginia Mennonite Relief Sale

The Virginia Mennonite Relief Sale 2016 was this past Saturday.

The auction was on Friday evening and continued Saturday through the early afternoon.

Our church youth group washed the potatoes that were for the potato chip making for the sale.

Breakfast started early with omelets,  pancakes,
sausage gravy and biscuits.

There were many wood crafted items also sold at the auction.

A day of slicing meat and cheeses for the relief sale
 happens at Grandma's Pantry.

Pies of all varieties were sold along with other baked items.

My daughters came home to make quilts for my new book coming out next fall. They are each making a quilt that will be featured in the book.  I just love days like these.

Here is a new pattern I am playing around with called Cookie Cutter.  The first one is made of many browns and reds with an appliqued strip of gold.

The second Cookie Cutter  is a three color fabric quilt with a zigzag appliqued on two of the corners.

My husband is working on a generator
 building for our turkey houses.

He needed a second hand a few days so I got to help him.

Here are some ladies that took a photo quilt class with me.

 Their photo quilts were amazing.

Mother and I spent the day with Rebecca helping her can salsa, tomato juice and whole tomatoes .  Her sour kraut was also ready to can.  I think we wore Mother out, she chopped tomatoes, onion and peppers all morning.

I am out in Iowa teaching and lecturing about quilts. Thanks for a wonderful time Nancy and Carol.

Valli made this quilt from my book "Amazingly Simple Triangle Stars" book.  She used old shirts, notice the color placement of the different shirts in the quilt.

Quilt Extravaganza

This past weekend my Mother, sisters and sister-in-law
gathered for a mini sewing retreat. The purpose of our get-together was each one of the girls were to make their rendition of a pattern for my 5th book.

We all gathered in Mothers home where we grew up as children.

Our sister Emily who lives in Texas was the only one of us 8 Children who did not get to make it to our quilting weekend. She texted a picture of her working on her quilt.

Our one and only brother slipped in and
visited us along with his granddaughter.

Mother worked on piecing a doll quilt. I think that is pretty good for a 91 year young lady.

My son Christian dropped in for Sunday lunch.

 My sister Polly and I.

Cheryl's finished quilt top.

Julia and Coleen working diligently.

Julia's quilt "Twirling Birds". She will be entering this quilt in some quilt contests.

Mother made these blocks at our family sewing retreat in Feburary.  This quilt is one of the inspirations that made my mind start churning for this new quilt book.  Can you figure out the them of the book?
