Simple Christmas Star
This Simple Christmas Star quilt is made of the extra triangle units from my  "Bursting Forth" quilt.

In my book Simply Triangles, page 41 is the "Bursting Forth" Quilt.

Here is another version of the "Simple Christmas Star" quilt.

Directions for Simple Christmas Star quilt.
Here is what you need:
Fabric Yardage: 1/4 yard black print #1 for star.
1/4 yard black print #2 for star.
12 triangle units from "Bursting Forth" or you can make new units by cutting 4 different shades of red in 1 7/8" strips. You will need two red unit strips to cut triangles from. See step #5.
1. Cut one strip 6" x WOF from each of the black prints.
2. Line the 60 degree line on your ruler with the bottom of the fabric strip. Cut along the left side of ruler.

3. Cut on right side of ruler creating a 60 degree diamond.

4. Cut 3 diamonds from each fabric.

5. Use units from "Bursting Forth" or from each of the 4 shades of red fabric cut 2 strips 1 7/8" x WOF.  Sew 4 strips together from light to dark in value.  Press seam toward dark fabric.  Using the Creative Grids 60 degree ruler cut triangles.

6.  Rotate ruler and cut another triangle.  Continue to cut until you have 12 triangles that look alike.

7.  Place diamonds to create a 6 pointed star.

8.  Place triangles around black diamonds.  Sew two triangles to a diamond as pictured below.

9. Sew triangle units together in two rows.

10.  Sew the two rows together.  Quilt as desired and bind.

11.  For some variation, add some applique to the star, zigzag over floss with transparent thread and add a border.
