This pattern is a spinoff from my book "Simply Triangles" . The quilt on the front of the book has a similar layout but is pieced with a different star pattern.

We pull out the manger scene. Our children and now our grandchildren enjoy the figurines and playing with the small animals and moving them around.

ReplyDeleteOne tradition our family has done for years is to have a fondue sometime over the week of Christmas. I've been wanting to quit that but traditions die hard. Each year they want to do it again.

I don't have any Christmas traditions that I make sure I do every year, except that I do listen to Christmas music year round :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have special ornaments that we put on the tree first. Our girls are not allowed to add anything until we put these on.
ReplyDeleteWe have oyster stew on Christmas eve and go to Midnight church services. Then we go home and open all the non-santa presents.
ReplyDeleteWe have a big cookie-baking night with a bunch of family friends. We've been doing it since I was small, and it's always something I look forward to.
ReplyDeleteWe eat, as all swedes do, saffronbuns and gingerbread cookies. A great combo is the cookies and stilton cheese, yummy!!!

ReplyDeleteUsually we go as a family to a Lessons and Carols program in Charlottesville. We've been for the last 22 years. This year's program is this coming Sat night, and I'm not sure we're going to be able to make it. The director we knew is no longer in charge, and the music has changed a bit. We'll have to find a different Christmas concert to attend.

ReplyDeleteI give my kids a special ornament each year to take with them, when they move into their own place. They also get Christmas p.j.'s on Christmas eve.

ReplyDeleteMy favourite tradition was started by my daughter when she was a toddler. We put up a real tree and the night it goes up with all the lights and decorations she sleeps under it.

ReplyDeleteWe open our gifts on Christmas Eve one by one going from youngest to oldest. Some years it takes a few hours but it's so much fun. It's always a shock to me when we go somewhere else and everyone tears into the gifts all at once! Thanks for a great giveaway~!

Every year we have a huge family dinner on Christmas day at my moms hous eand my entire family attends. we all cook and bake stuff to bring . It is a wonderful day filled with good food great company and much needed catching up and seeing everyone.

We're still figuring out traditions with our little one but last year we broke away from the extremely long gift-opening period with the in-laws to attend late night church services. I'm hoping we do that again this year

ReplyDeleteMy favorite I don't know if it's going to happen this year! My father and I always go to the German church service at our local Lutheran church (we're Episcopalian, but he was brought up Lutheran, and I'm fluent in German), while my sister and mother go to the kids' service at our regular church (heh - Christmas is the one time we *don't* go to church together!). It's really the one thing I always do with just my father. But this year we have the baby... who may not want to go!

ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite traditions is when we read 'The Night Before Christmas'. I was given the book when I was 3 years old, and this year I'll get to read it to my baby son for the first time. :-)
