  I so enjoyed hearing Caryl Bryer Fallert Gentry's lecture at the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg, VA.  If you get a chance go see this exhibit by December 19.

 My niece Jolene was also at the lecture.

Wednesday was our monthly sewing 

day at the church.  Some of us quilt....

 ....and some of us knot comforts.

 A trip to Pennsylvanian 

Ben, Melissa, Rowen, Rebecca and I packed up the 

van and headed to PA to visit Autumn and Laban.

 

We took our sewing machines and spent all day Saturday sewing.

 Rowen learning to quilt.

 Rebecca is cutting out a quilt while Autumn is working on lunch.

Autumn is teaching Rebecca some tricks on the piano.

Old Fashion Day at the Old Order Mennonite  School

  I drive these precious little children to school every day.

 A lunch pail and wide rim sun bonnet.

 Most of the girls wore aprons.

 Hat, vest, knickers, white socks and lunch pail.

The excitement of the children was so much fun to see.

Apple Butter Boiling

CLINE APPLE BUTTER  Day

Made with apples and sugar. 

1) Peel the apples

2) Core and cut apples into eighths.

3) Wash apples

4) 5:30 a.m. start the fire  and put the first apples 

in the kettle with a little water. Continue to add 9 bushels of apples.

5) Stir the kettle all day. This of course is the most important task.

 Add sugar (30 pounds) once the apples are all cooked up.

 Socializing is an important ingredient.

6) Cook another 3-4 hours until the right consistency.

7) Add oil of cloves and cinnamon right before the 

apple butter is taken out of the kettle.

 8) Fill jars with apple butter and 
place lids on top and screw rings on.

Heatwole Apple Butter

My Uncle Willard Heatwole's family

 made apple butter a week after us.   

They made a cider/applesauce  apple butter. 

A completely different taste of apple butter than ours but also good. Here is their recipe.

 Heatwoles started their fire at 1:30am.

 This weekend we were delighted to have Ransford and Chris Heatwole stay in our home for the weekend.  Chris is not only married to my first cousin but she is a close friend who roomed with me during Bible college.  We always have a ball when we are together.

Their daughter and son-in-law also stayed with us.
